What is Coronary Heart Disease?
Coronary Heart Disease beings when the coronary arteries - the arteries on the surface of the heart that supply the heart muscle with blood - become gradually Furred up with fatty material called Atheroma. In time the artery may become so narrow that it cannot deliver enough oxygen -containing blood to the heart muscle when it needs it most. The pain and discomfort that happens, as a result, is called Angina. Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) is a condition caused by Coronary Heart Disease.
Rheumatic Heart Disease - This disease mainly damages the heart valves. The valves which most commonly get affected and damaged are the Mitral followed by the Aorrtic valve.
Hypertensive Heart Disease
Long- standing high blood pressure affects the heart muscles and the heart blood vessels resulting in heart enlargement and failure in the long run or blockage of the coronary blood vessels leading to a Heart Attack.
Pericardial Diseases : The most common is Pericardial Effusion Constructive Pericarditis
Common Signs and symptoms of Heart Diseases (Mainly Myocardial Infarction)
-
Sudden chest pain (typically radiating to the left arm or left side of the neck)
-
Shortness of breath
-
Nausea
-
Vomiting
-
Palpitations
-
Sweating
-
Anxiety (often described as a sense of impending doom)
Women may experience fewer typical symptoms than men, most commonly shortness of breath, weakness, a feeling of indigestion and fatigue. Approximately, one -quarter of all Myocardial Infarctions are silent, without chest pain or other symptoms.
Causes of Heart Failure
The causes of Heart Failure are difficult to analyse due to challenges in diagnosis, differences in population and age.
